Community Service Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University "Biopori solution for overcoming floods and droughts

`

Mechanical engineering study program, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University through the coordinator Prof. IGN Nitya Santhiarsa provides community service regarding the implementation of biopori in residents' homes in Denpasar. Prof. Nitya said that biopore technology or infiltration wells is a solution to overcome the problem of flooding which is increasingly occurring in Denpasar City.

Apart from being believed to be a solution to overcome flooding, biopori technology can also function as a water bank to overcome drought in the dry season. This biopori can be implemented from a small scale or at home to a large scale in the form of absorption wells placed at flood-prone points.

Prof. Nitya explained that in principle biopores are small holes in the soil that are formed by organisms in the soil. This hole will be filled with air and become a path for water to flow when the rainy season arrives, so that rainwater is not immediately thrown into the drain, but rather seeps into the ground through the hole.

It is hoped that this community service can provide understanding to the community and related parties regarding biopori technology and in the future this biopori can be used as an ecological program aimed at saving water resources, especially underground water, so that it can reduce the threat of flooding in the rainy season, drought and widespread critical land in the dry season.
