Community Service Through Collaboration with the Japanese Yeh Sudamala Project in Pedawa Village, Buleleng

On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, the Environmental Engineering Study Program, Civil Engineering Masters Study Program and Engineering Science Doctoral Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University held Community Service activities related to the implementation of the Clean Water Supply System in Pedawa Village, Banjar District, Regency Buleleng. This activity was carried out in collaboration with the Yes Sudamala (YES) Project, which is a Japanese Non-Governmental Organization. This activity involved lecturers, students and education staff, and was accompanied by the Environmental Engineering Koprodi, Ir. Kadek Diana Harmayani, ST., MT., PhD., IPM. and Co-Prodi Master of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dewa Ketut Sudarsana, MT. This activity was attended by the YES Project Team and local village officials.

This activity began with introductions and presentations from the YES Project Team, represented by Yushi Yamada as Project Director, Mitsuha Abe as Operations Director, Ryuto Odashima as Technical Director and Gede Suradiasa as Project Leader. This activity has started in 2019, where the organizational structure for the management of the Drinking Water Supply System has been carried out by involving the hamlet head in Pedawa Village, setting air tariffs, securing raw water sources for springs, as well as replacing damaged and leaking pipes.

The planning of the clean water pipeline network that has been carried out is in the service area of ??Dusun Desa, M. Waban and Asah. In this clean water delivery system, the construction/construction of new pipes has been carried out. In addition, it is necessary to repair existing pipelines that are damaged or have no leaks. Furthermore, it is planned to develop a clean water supply system in other hamlets, namely Bangkiang Sidem, Insakan and Lambo hamlets, by utilizing the potential of Suka Jati and Gobleg raw water sources.

Community Service Cooperation with the YES Project began through the making of an MoU and a Cooperation Agreement between the Environmental Engineering Study Program and LIFE Japan as a Non-Governmental Organization of the YES Project program. The head of the PkM activity team is Ir. Kadek Diana Harmayani, ST., MT., Ph.D., IPM. and the team secretary is IP Gustave Suryaantara Pariartha. ST, M.Eng, Ph.D. In supporting the implementation of the YES Project, Community Service activities carried out by the Environmental Engineering Study Program are Pipe Network Dimensional Simulations. In planning the clean water delivery system, it is necessary to simulate the pipeline network to ensure that the clean water delivery system can run optimally.

Meanwhile, Community Service Activities carried out by the Civil Engineering Masters Study Program are Operational Management and Maintenance of Drinking Water Supply Systems. This Community Service activity is a stage of the YES Project, after the installation of a new water pipe network funded by the YES Project Japan. This Community Service activity formulates operational and maintenance management to ensure the improvement of the drinking water supply system in Pedawa Village after the construction period for the installation of the drinking water supply system pipe network is complete.

Koprodi Environmental Engineering who is also the Head of this Community Service Activities team. Ir. Kadek Diana Harmayani, ST., MT., Ph.D., IPM. conveyed that through this collaboration it was hoped that it would be able to provide clean water services in terms of quantity, quality, continuity, and affordability to all communities in Pedawa Village. The Udayana University, in this case the Environmental Engineering Study Program, the Civil Engineering Master Study Program, and the Engineering Doctoral Study Program will support by providing technical assistance according to their scientific fields. In addition, cooperation is not only in this activity, but will be continued in other programs, including activities.
