Visit from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) Professors and Scientists

`

As the first step in international cooperation, the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University received a visit from professors and scientists from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). The activity discussed several forms of collaboration that can be carried out jointly between the two institutions, such as holding conferences, joint research, and publications at the international level.

Professors and scientists from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) on Thursday, August 4 visit the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. This activity took place in Meeting Room 2, 3rd Floor, Dean Building, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, Jimbaran. The visit was aimed at sharing and discussing information on activities carried out in each institution so that in the future it can be developed into a form of cooperation.

On this occasion, Vice Dean for Academic and Planning,  Prof. I Nyoman Suprapta Winaya, ST., MA.Sc., Ph.D., started the event by opening and showing a video about the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. The Coordinators of the Study Programs who were also present in the meeting, i.e., Doctoral of Engineering Study Program, Information Technology Study Program, Electrical Engineering Study Program, and Environmental Engineering Study Program also conveyed the activities carried out in their respective Study Programs, especially those that could be carried out through international collaboration or collaboration. In addition, information opportunities to conduct research in Bali, Indonesia, through the Udayana University International Senior Researcher Fellowship program in collaboration with one of the lecturers/researchers at Udayana University was also shared in the meeting.

A total of 10 professors and scientists from VAST attended this visit, i.e, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dai Hung (Former Director, Institute of Physics (IOP) VAST), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khoa Son (Former Vice President of VAST), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Khoa (Vice-Director, Institute of Mechanics, VAST), Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Quang (Director, Center for Informatics and Computing), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Thang (Vice-Director, Information Technology, VAST), Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Giang (Information Technology, VAST), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Long Giang (Vice-Director, Information Technology, VAST), Prof. Bui Dinh Tri (Center for Research and Technology Transfer, VAST), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Dung (Vice-Director, Information Technology, VAST), and Dr. Pham Van Bach Ngoc (Vietnam Space Technology Institute, VAST).

VAST, which is located in Hanoi, Vietnam, provides some information related to the programs that have been implemented, such as Masters and Doctoral programs, research collaboration programs, conferences, and international publications. The professors and scientists who attended this visit were experts in the field of information technology with experience at the international level. As the Head of the VAST Delegation, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dai Hung is currently active as an Editor in Chief at the Communications in Physics VAST journal and has expertise in Physics, particularly Optics, lasers, and photonics. Meanwhile, other professors who were present had expertise in the field of Information Technology (IT). However, they also carry out activities to develop applications from the IT field to other fields. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dai Hung, the Head of the VAST Delegation, said that this visit would be the first step in realizing cooperation between the two agencies in the future.

The Sharing and discussion activity lasted for approximately 2 hours. After the sharing and discussion sessions, the VAST delegation visited one of the renewable technology laboratories developed by the Electrical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering. Through this activity, discussed forms of cooperation that can be carried out through collaboration between the two agencies, such as holding conferences, joint research, and publications at the international level. VAST has an international conference program that has been carried out regularly and opens up opportunities for other institutions, including Udayana University, to co-host in organize the conference. VAST also welcomes the opportunity to become a journal reviewer at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. The implementation of research collaboration is also expected to be carried out, one of which is in the field of data processing which requires a computerized system with high specifications.
