Working Visit of the Special Committee of the Assembly at Regional of East Kalimantan Province Regarding Renewable Energy Management at the Faculty of Engineering

The East Kalimantan Provincial Assembly at Regional Electricity Special Committee on April 13, 2022 made a working visit to the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. The working visit aims to determine the level of development of New and Renewable Energy in Bali Province, especially at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. East Kalimantan Province plans to become a New Renewable Energy development project bureau, where this is the first time that the special team in Indonesia will carry out the process of revamping electricity, particularly in the Blue Power Technology sector, by taking into account the various potential sources of New and Renewable Energy available in the East Kalimantan area.

Bali Province is an area whose coverage and accessibility related to electricity, including the use of New and Renewable Energy, is quite good compared to East Kalimantan Province. This is one of the reasons for the special committee team to visit Bali Province, especially Udayana University, which has developed Renewable Energy within the scope of the agency. In addition, lecturers from the Electrical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University have carried out developments related to New and Renewable Energy to various regions in Bali, especially the use of New and Renewable Energy for government buildings.

The working visit carried out by the Special Committee for the Assembly at Regional of East Kalimantan Province began with an acceptance in Meeting Room II of the Dean Building, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. The speech was given by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and his staff as the hosts of the meeting. After the opening given by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the event was continued with discussions related to problems in the electricity sector which were carried out with lecturer representatives from the Electrical Engineering Study Program. In the discussion activity, which was attended by the Special Committee for Electricity at the Assembly at Regional of East Kalimantan Province and representatives of lecturers from the Electrical Engineering Study Program, they were mentioned about the backwardness of electricity supply received in villages in the East Kalimantan region. There are hundreds of villages that still have not received electricity for a full day. Communities in the area only get electricity supply during the night and there are even villages that get electricity supply for only six hours.

The Head of the Special Committee Team, Sapto Setyo Pramono said that this matter received special attention from the East Kalimantan Provincial Government. Various efforts will be made to increase the supply of electricity to these villages so that electricity supply is evenly distributed in the long term. Currently, PLN itself pays little attention to these remote villages, where PLN focuses on fulfilling the full electricity supply in villages that have easy access and already have roads. So it is hoped that the development of renewable energy sources can be built as soon as possible in these remote areas in order to assist the community in obtaining an adequate electricity supply.

Furthermore, during discussion activities related to renewable energy in Bali, especially those developed by Udayana University, the Special Committee Team of the East Kalimantan Provincial Assembly at Regional also saw firsthand the solar and wind renewable energy power plant located on the rooftop of the DH Building Electrical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering. , Udayana University. During the direct inspection, the Special Committee for the East Kalimantan Provincial Assembly at Regional and representatives of the lecturers of the Electrical Engineering Study Program discussed the power generated by the solar and wind renewable energy power plant developed by the Electrical Engineering Study Program and the usufructuary rights owned. During the visit, also discussed the discovery of measuring devices that can detect the magnitude of each turbine. Inventions created by students are considered necessary to be patented so that they are not taken lightly and can be used for the long term. This can also be used later for development in the world of renewable energy, where Indonesia itself is still very minimal looking at New renewable energy and still relies on fossil resources to supply electrical energy to the community.

This visit also briefly discussed the extent of donations from the relevant ministries. As for almost 6-7 years this asset has not been handed over, so students as the younger generation have to criticize it. If the assistance has not been submitted, then the maintenance or repair process should be carried out first. With this condition, students are still expected to be able to innovate in the future, given the importance of development in the field of New Renewable Energy. Through the visit that has been carried out by the Special Committee Team of the Provincial Assembly at Regional of East Kalimantan, it is hoped that it will have a positive impact on the development of renewable energy in East Kalimantan Province, where it still needs to be re-evaluated related to electricity supply planning using Renewable Energy and designing a series of regulations to facilitate the development. So that rural communities in the East Kalimantan region can also enjoy full electricity without being limited in time and can be used in the long term.
