I Nyoman Suta Widnyana successfully earned a Doctorate degree, at the 53rd Doctoral Promotion at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University

The Engineering Science Doctoral Study Program held its 53rd Doctoral promotion on Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Wiswakarma Hall, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. Promovendus I Nyoman Suta Widnyana, ST., MT with a dissertation entitled Making Geopolymer Adhesives Based on Coconut Coir Ash completed his research for 4 years and 6 months with a very satisfactory predicate.

In his presentation, Dr. I Nyoman Suta Widnyana, ST., MT explained that cement production requires a process of heating and burning limestone with a very large amount of fossil fuels which causes the release of very large carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions as well. It is a major contributor to the formation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Therefore, mitigation measures are needed to reduce the use of Portland cement in concrete production, such as developing the production of geopolymer-type binders. Coconut coir ash waste has been used as a precursor in the production of geopolymer binders. Based on the results of the X-ray diffraction test, the microstructure of coir ash waste and geopolymer binders was detected to contain calcium cathenacylate (CaO3Si), coesite (SiO2) and albite (AlNaO8Si3) compounds. With increasing age of the test object, the albite compound in the geopolymer binder experienced an increase in strength, while the strength of the calcium caten silicate and coesite compounds decreased. The results of the SEM-EDX test showed an increase in binder density and a decrease in pore strength with increasing age of the test object.
