LPPM Udayana University and Faculty of Engineering Udayana University Conducted a Technical Study on Air Circulation of Goa Giri Putri Temple in Karangsari Traditional Village, Suana Village, Nusa Penida

A TEAM of researchers from the LPPM Research Center for Technology and Materials at Udayana University - LPPM, Udayana University who is fully supported by the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. Conducted a Technical Study of Air Circulation at Goa Giri Putri Temple on November 18 and 19, 2022, in the Karangsari Traditional Village, Suana Nusa Penida Village.




This activity was opened by the Bendesa Adat of Karangsari Village and the Head of the Research Center for Technology and Materials-LPPM Udayana University. The activity was attended by the officials of the Karangasari Traditional Village and the Goa Giri Putri Temple Stakeholders. The purpose of the study carried out is to find solutions and solutions related to air circulation in the Goa Giri Putri Temple that is effective, efficient and does not damage the structure of the Cave, and does not interfere with the comfort and solemnity of the pemedek.




Goa Giri Putri Temple is a very unique heavenly temple, because it is located in a cave at the height of a hill in the Karangsari Traditional Village, Suana Village, Nusa Penida District. Goa Giri Putri Temple is a place of worship for Hindus in particular, quite a lot of pemedek are present especially on the holy days of Tilem and Purnama and during Odalan at the Temple. Pemedek does not only come from the people around Nusa Penida, but also from outside the island of Nusa Penida. Besides that, Goa Giri Temple is visited by many tourists who travel to Nusa Penida, so apart from being a holy place, it has also become one of the icons of Nusa Penida tourism in particular and Bali in general.




In the journey of Goa Giri Puri as a place of worship, where its existence is in the cave, and when pemedek Tangkil is for prayer, the use of incense that emits smoke cannot be avoided, even the amount is very large. For example, 500 people are present in the temple and each pemedek lights 3 sticks of incense, the number of incense burned is 1500 sticks. From this example, it is certain that the incense smoke produced is quite a lot and even covers the entire space of the Giri Putri Cave. Besides that, the humidity in the Giri Putri Cave is very high and dangerous for the pemedek and for the stakeholders. It will also spread substances that may be harmful produced by incense smoke. This problem has become interesting to be studied by experts from the Faculty of Engineering who are members of the LPPM Research Center for Technology and Materials, Udayana University, which is fully supported by the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. Activities carried out in the form of measurements in the cave include air humidity, the distance from the entrance to the exit, as well as measuring the volume of the cave including measuring width and height for several measurement angles.
