The 40th Open Examination of Doctoral Promotion in Engineering Faculty

Doctoral Study Program in Engineering Sciences (PSDIT) Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 10.00 WITA located in the Wiswakarma Hall of Udayana University, conducting an open examination (Doctoral promotion). Promovendus on behalf of I Made Rajendra with a dissertation title "Pyrolysis of Fixed Bed Using Bed Materials Iron Sand, Mordenite and ZSM-5 for Conversion of Sunan Candlenut Cake Biomass into Biodiesel Raw Material". Promovendus passed with a very satisfactory predicate. Dr. I Made Rajendra is the 40th graduate of PSDIT.

Dr. I Made Rajendra in his presentation explained that the issue of fossil energy scarcity has now become the concern of all parties. The Indonesian government has scheduled an energy transition program from fossil energy sources to new and renewable energy (EBT). Indonesia as a country rich in natural resources has various sources of renewable energy derived from biomass, one of which has the potential as raw material for biodiesel, that is Kemiri Sunan (Reutalis trisperma (blanco) airy shaw). The Kemiri Sunan biodiesel production process will leave waste in the form of dregs or Kemiri Sunan cake. The cake waste can still be processed into bio-oil through the pyrolysis technique. The effectiveness of pyrolysis is influenced by temperature parameters and the use of bed materials that play a role in product selectivity, especially the formation of hydrocarbon compounds in bio-oil. Up-to-date bed materials such as the ZSM-5 are currently still expensive and have not been produced domestically. The innovation in this research is to apply the use of iron sand as an alternative material. The results showed that the pyrolysis oil produced had met the requirements as biodiesel feedstock.

I Nyoman Gede Wardana, M.Eng., Ph.D. (University of Brawijaya) and Prof. Dr. Ir. I Made Rasta, M.Si. (Bali State Polytechnic). Meanwhile, Prof. Ir. Rukmi Sari Hartati, M.T., Ph.D., Prof. I Wayan Widhiada, ST., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Eng. Made Sucipta, S.T., M.T. as internal support. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Bandem Adnyana, M. Erg. Dr. Ir.
