Boosting Construction Worker Competence: Semen Gresik Hosts "Jago Bangunan" Training and Certification at Udayana University's Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering at Udayana University hosted the "Jago Bangunan" (Construction Expert) Training and Certification event. Organized by PT Semen Gresik in collaboration with a Professional Certification Body (LSP) under the auspices of the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), the event was supported by the Construction Services Center Region IV (Surabaya) of the Ministry of Public Works. It took place at the Civil Engineering Building of the Udayana University Faculty of Engineering on Friday, September 25, 2026.

The "Jago Bangunan" Training and Certification program is part of an initiative to enhance the competence and certification of construction workers. Hosting the event at Udayana University represents a collaborative effort with the Faculty of Engineering—specifically the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Study Program—to support activities aimed at improving human resource competence in the construction sector.

Ir. Ida Ayu Made Budiwati, M.Sc., Ph.D., Coordinator of the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Study Program at Udayana University's Faculty of Engineering, attended the event. The involvement of the Civil Engineering Study Program was instrumental in facilitating the event, which engaged participants from the construction workforce.

The event began with participant registration, followed by the opening remarks and ceremony. Subsequently, participants attended a theoretical presentation to prepare them for the practical and certification sessions.

During the practical session, participants had the opportunity to practice masonry work. This was followed by the certification test, a key component of the "Jago Bangunan" program. In addition to technical material, participants received further theoretical instruction and product knowledge regarding Semen Gresik.

The event continued on Saturday, September 26, 2026, featuring a closing ceremony and fun games before participants prepared for their departure. This two-day event was part of the broader "Jago Bangunan" Training and Certification series held in Bali. Previously, the Semen Gresik Residents' Consumer Cooperative (KWSG) submitted a proposal to the Faculty of Engineering at Udayana University—via the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Study Program—to collaborate on organizing training and certification for "Jago Bangunan" (skilled construction workers). The proposed event was planned to involve approximately 50 to 100 participants and required the use of an assembly hall and a practical training site within the Udayana University campus.

By hosting this event, the Faculty of Engineering at Udayana University supports the development of construction workforce competencies through training and certification. Furthermore, the initiative strengthens collaboration between academia and industry partners in fostering human resource capacity building within the construction sector.
