Enhancing International Academic Quality: 4 Electrical Engineering Students from Udayana University Participate in the Sakura Science Project at Shizuoka University
Four students from the Electrical Engineering Study Program (PSTE) at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University (Unud), have officially arrived at Shizuoka University, Japan. The Unud delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Tadahiro Wada, representing Shizuoka University.
In this program, the four PSTE Unud students joined three students from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to participate in the Sakura Science Project (SSP), which runs from November 5 to November 12, 2026.
The SSP is an implementation of a strategic partnership between the Faculty of Engineering at Udayana University and the Faculty of Engineering at Shizuoka University, which has been in place since 2018. Since the establishment of this partnership, PSTE Unud has consistently sent selected students to participate in this international program each year, with full funding provided by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
Prior to their departure for Japan, the participants attended a pre-lecture session for initial preparation. Upon arrival, the program began with a short tour of Shizuoka University’s Hamamatsu Campus.
Throughout the week, the students were presented with cutting-edge academic material, including lectures on Visible Light Communications using Machine Learning, Advanced Mobility Systems, Visible Light Communication Techniques, and Power Electronics. Furthermore, the participants had the opportunity to deepen their cultural understanding through Japanese language classes and an introductory session on Shizuoka University’s International Student Program.
Beyond classroom learning, the participants visited the Suzuki Museum to observe the evolution of Japanese automotive technology firsthand. Another highlight was the students' participation in the Campus Festival and Techno Festival—an exhibition and demonstration of final-year projects by students from the Shizuoka University Faculty of Engineering, which was open to the public and attended by the students' families. The continuation of the Sakura Science Project is expected to further strengthen academic cooperation between universities in both countries, while simultaneously providing valuable international research and cultural experience for students of Udayana University.
